VintageTimeWatches | About
If you’ve hit the ‘About’ page, it means there’s a good chance that you’re interested in finding out a little more about the company, so here it is …
I’m Alex, in today’s language I’d be called the ‘Founder’ of VintageTimeWatches, but the reality is that I’m just a guy that’s into vintage watches and retro-cool, fortunate enough to translate my passion into a business.
Thinking back, I’d always been into watches from a young age – mobile phones weren’t really a thing, and certainly had nothing like built-in clocks, so a wristwatch was just normal everyday wear, but this was a time of technology; digital watches were everywhere, they had all manner of functions – 27 different alarms, calculator, radio and even a thermometer (just what every child needs!).
I think it was the whole magnificence of it … being able to wear so much technology on your wrist, surely this would be mankind’s greatest accomplishment? This truly was the ‘digital age’.
OK, so we may have surpassed that great age of technology, but for me, that style (and earlier) hasn’t been beaten, and not in some ‘hipster retro-cool’ way either – watches from the 60s, 70s & 80s are just cool. It’s that simple.
VintageTime
When I got round to buying a watch that was more than a fashion accessory, it had to be vintage; modern watches have their place, and of course, we have the modern versions of old names like the Rolex Submariner, and modern offerings from ‘vintage’ companies – such as Omega, Breitling and Cartier (I’ve chosen not to include Tag Heuer because I feel their best era was when they were just Heuer), but while you’re still buying tradition, quality and brand, you’re not buying patina, style and history.
I digress …
I’d like to tell you that my first ‘proper’ vintage watch was a 60s Submariner fitted with a Nato strap (because don’t we all like to be a bit ‘Bond’), but the reality is a little different – it was a Certina DS3 LE Chrono; different enough to be noticeable, still very cool and a good compromise in size.
Everything was fine in my world until the day I lost that DS3; after giving myself the ‘it’ll turn up’ time, I eventually called the insurance company, only to find that what they were offering was very different to what I’d paid – it was this misfortune that set me on the path to VintageTimeWatches.
I searched all the regular places for a replacement, none were in my budget, but I carried on looking and started widening the search, I eventually found a replacement under my budget (which I duly bought) but of course, searching through these glorious vintage watches had triggered something – maybe I could use my knowledge to find beautiful vintage watches at sensible prices … you know the rest of that story because you’re here.
Vintage Watches
Although we hold a reasonably large stock of classical and vintage watches, for both ladies and gentlemen, typically that stock does move pretty quickly. If there’s something specific that you’ve seen, or perhaps that you’d like to try and locate, then please contact me to discuss it.
