Let us introduce our collectable Tag Heuer 200m Sel Men’s Watch Model S95.206m. What makes this watch a collectable?
Well firstly, it seems to be a debatable matter that this was one of the first watches made under the trade name of TAG Heuer. The company only finalised their documents on the 1 January 1986, therefore making this watch the first launched under their new name. The Formula 1 series was only released in March 1986.
In the 1990s, the S/el watch was a best seller and got renamed in 1999 to the “Link”. The original name is derived from the words “Sports Elegance” and was designed by Eddie Schopfer. He also designed the 2000 series as well as other watch brands such as the Breitling for Bentley line and the 2013 Chronomat and Emergency Breitling. The S/el range was for the upper-class market and said to be worn with a dinner jacket and was considered the flagship range of Tag Heuer until they launched the 6000 series in the mid-1990s.
The S/el series is said to have been one of the first series launching with the tagline “Six Features”. These include 1- Up to 200m water-resistant; 2- Screw-in crown; 3-double safety clasp bracelet; 4 unidirectional bezel; 5-sapphire crystal; and lastly 6 luminous markings. This was a great marketing tool to help the Tag Heuer brand define itself.

One of the unique features of this watch is its distinctive bracelet which is made up of several chunky two curved ingots for a comfortable wear. The case is also designed in such a way that it is an extension of the links of the bracelet so to say. It’s “soft, organic look” is what made it a popular watch of the time as it was different from the regular Tag Heuer watches. They stopped the range in 1999 when the name changed to the TAG Heuer Link.
During its manufacturing years, it included these seven ranges:
S/el Quartz Watch | Chronograph | Digital Chronograph (all quartz) |Watch |Chronometer |Chronograph (automatic) | S/el Leather series
Today, this range has flatter, squarer links but still contains the inspiration of the S/el range.
