Our Take

Rado is a well known Swiss brand worldwide, and although a relatively young, its craftsmanship is in impeccable. This great example of the classic 1980s Companion Golden Gate doesn’t disappoint, its a good size, suitable for today’s man, measuring 36mm in diameter and 40mm from lug to lug. The stainless steel case is in great shape, the steel back screws in and exhibits the ‘Rado’ logo. The dial is a champagne colour with some ageing, it has gold markers, date/day at 3 o’ clock and the Rado anchor in the centre, all under an acrylic crystal. The crown bears the logo and is steel. The watch is powered by a 2798.402 automatic movement with 25 jewels and keeps good time. The serial number is 11859 and says Golden Gate. The bracelet has been replaced an aftermarket generic steel strap which suits the watch well. It will fit a wrist of about 7.8” or 18.5cm approximately. The watch comes without the original box, but a gift box will be provided. Water-resistance is not guaranteed so please do not use it near water.

About Rado

Started life as Schlup & Co. in 1917, but started selling watches under the Rado brand in the 50s. Best known for the innovative design and use of revolutionary materials such as ceramic, giving the watches a unique look and feel.

The ceramic style was started when they incorporated it with the ‘Integral’ watch, although only in the bracelet, it took a bit longer for the ‘Ceramica’ to come along, which was the first watch to be made entirely with ceramic.

Rado watches are elegant, stylish and subtle, they don’t shout at you like other brands, but certainly, show that you have an appreciation of horology.
