Our Take

The Maurice Lacroix Calypso 79636 named after the goddess-nymph of the mythical island of Ogygia and the daughter of the Titan Atlas, came out in the ’90s. The gold plated steel case measures 24mm in diameter and 28mm from lug to lug, it’s in good condition and has some nice fancy lugs. The dial with diamante markers has some age spots, the logo at the 12 o’clock position, quick set date at the 6, all under a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The crown is gold and bears the logo. The gold plated back case has the logo and is in good condition with very little scratching, Serial/model numbers: 79636#5274. Its a quartz-powered movement, running well and keeping time as it should. The original gold plated strap with butterfly clasp, shows some wear to the clasp itself, it measures 6.7” or 17cm. The watch comes without the original box and papers but a gift box will accompany it. Please don’t use this near water as we cannot guarantee water resistance.

About Maurice Lacroix

Although the company that first created Maurice Lacroix was formed in 1889, and did have significant links to the watch trade, Maurice Lacroix only formed in 1975. Unusually, the manufacturer had the capability to produce their own cases, but didn’t produce their own first in-house movement until 2006.

Not a traditional, centuries-old maker, but well respected and the vintage lines are collectible thanks to the elegant style that they bring to any outfit. Think sophisticated rather than utility.
