Our Take

You may not know that Gucci actually holds a Guinness World Record for selling more than one million units in their first two years of producing watches back in 1974 of the Model 2000. So this may not be that particular piece but it was equally popular during the 90s as Gucci watches become popularised. The steel case measures around 28mm in diameter and 30mm from lug to lug, with a bi-metal steel and gold plated strap with butterfly clasp, it would fit a wrist of around 6.3” or 16cm approximately, a petite ladies watch. The bezel is gold plated black with Roman numerals, its also rotates, clicking as it goes. It has a lovely cream dial with a quick set date at 6 o’clock and luminous gold markers to match, all protected by the mineral crystal glass with minimal wear. The movement has been inspected and is keeping perfect time! The logo is evident on the case back as well as the model number 9700L and serial #0020539. A great watch overall with minor wear, only light scuffs and fading here and there. Unfortunately, the original box and papers are long gone, but it will come with a gift box. Water-resistance is not guaranteed.

About Gucci

Although the Gucci brand first started back in 1906, it was known mainly for the quality leather goods they made, which quickly became world famous. It wasn’t until the 70s that they decided to branch out with fashion watches, with a licensing agreement with Severin Montres (who they would later go on to buy outright in 1997).

While the partnership produced such style icons as the Gucci G watch, so called because the stylised ‘G’ was used as an integral part of the case design, it’s fair to say that it was a case of style over substance – all the watches used a quality Swiss movement.

Gucci watches are instantly recognisable, thanks in part to the often incorporated G logo, and for the stylistas, there’s nothing finer.
